Dago Pena, born in the Dominican Republic was a promising baseball pitcher with a 90 mph fastball before finding his true passion was found in basketball. Pena and his family made the decision to leave his home in the Dominican Republic to pursue his dream of playing basketball at the next level. Pena started his basketball journey at a prep school in Florida until he found his home at Charlotte High School. Pena's senior year was spent at Charlotte High in Punta Gorda, FL., where he averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists finishing the season as County Player of the Year and Southwest Florida Association of Basketball Coaches "Mr. Basketball" award recipient.
Post graduation Pena was handpicked by Marshall's Thundering Herd in Huntington WV as a D1 small forward. During his college years Pena was selected as “Sixth Man of the Year” in the Conference USA he also made his mark in Marshall school history as a key player of the “Most Winning Class”. Pena’s basketball career was just kicking off as he enter the 2012 NBA draft. Although un drafted Pena continued to pursue his dream of playing ball at the professional level. In 2014 Peña's dreams became reality when he was signed to Maldonado BBC in Uruguay. Peña's career went on the upswing from Uruguay, back to the Dominican Republic, then onto Columbia and Centro Juventud Sionista in Parana Argentina. Peña's last 11 years have been spent in clubs across the globe to include: Club Básquet Coruña, Metros de Santiago, FC Barcelona Bàsquet B , Club Baloncesto Estudiantes, S.A.D., BC Pieno žvaigždės, Club Baloncesto Breogán, S.A.D., Aix Maurienne Savoie Basket and hanging his hat in his current club Club Deportivo Estela in Torrelavega, Cantabria.
Currently Pena is on sabbatical in the United States where he is teaching physical education at Punta Gorda Middle School in Punta Gorda, FL. He has also returned to his alma mater as an varsity assistant coach and working on player development. Coach Peña's first year back at Charlotte high school reunited him with his coach and their team was able to finish the 2023-2024 season as back to back district champions, regional champions and finally rounding out at the final four.
Pena’s passion for the game has never been stronger and now he is ready to share his experience and skills with our youth.
